so I still have to update about our summer and the fun new times with baby ryan.
but I will just jump right into fall now, before I forget.
Noah started preschool in sept at valley christian preschool in unionville. He loves his teaches, mrs heath and mrs thompson. he made a lot of friends and loves to learn new things, especially sign language.

allergy update
we saw the allergist yesterday and it is definitely oas. they were surprised to see a kid as young as noah. he had skin testing done. all indoor stuff was neg. + for grass, weeds and very much pollen, she was impressed; the bump for the tree pollen was bigger than the control (histamine). that is the apple and peas he gets reactions to. also pear, plum, cherry, almond, hazlenut and apricot are on that list but no issues so far. w/ the grass allergy, future food allergies could be to parsley, cukes, potatoes, carrots and cellary. she said allergy shots could be possible in future, but only work half the time.
thanks to my friend kate for giving me the heads-up on oas. i went in there prepared and knew what to expect and what to ask.
it could be worse, he could be allergic to nuts and have anaphylaxis. i can deal with half a year and having to peel or cook the fruit.
he got a bunch of samples of eye drops and nasonex. he is back on singulair at night b/c he also wheezes when he gets really bad. he is on zyrtec or claratin during the day. preferably zyrtec but i still have a new box of claratin. (here is something interesting: in the drs office they had an emergency instruction sheet if they are doing allergy testing and the patient becomes anaphylactic. besides giving the epi pen and starting an iv and calling 911 and doing cpr, before it gets that bad, one of the steps after givng epi is to rinse mouth and gargle with either liquid benadryl or liquid zyrtec. interesting. i should get some liquid generic benadryl on hand.) since the stupid recall, i can't get the liquid zyrtec, but i cut an adult one in half.
he will continue using the albuterol as needed and hydrocortisone for his eczema. it clears up nicely with it. and just otc one. i slather him with aveno once or twice a day. she also said to shower him at night to get all the pollen off him and if we can't, at least wash his face before bed (we do anyway).
and she said no attic fan., which stinks b/c we love using it. we have to use the central air more often, and not open windows. i am not sure i will be as extreme as that. if i can maintain him on his meds and control his symptoms, I will still use the attic fan and open windows. especially yesterday, it was gorgeous mid 70's with very low humidity. perfect weather!!
she said from now on, he has to be on his meds from st patricks day to 4th of july. good rule of thumb. she said to keep eye drops in fridge for him for a cooling effect and keep a moist wash cloth in bag in fridge that he can use on his eyes when they get really bad.
he goes back in sept for a follow up. i was pleased with the office.
as for the skin testing.. the nurse was quick and you can tell she has done this a 1000 times and explained it to parents and kids the same way. she called the two testing trays her catipillars and their feet were going to tickle noah. then she jammed a tray on each arm, giving 8 pricks on each arm. he freaked b/c it hurt, it surprised him.. since when does tickles feel like that? and then he got wicked itchy. so that really bothered him that he could not scratch. but we distracted him w/ joe's i phone watching a cartoon. after 7 min she came back in and measured the bumps and then washed it all off and applied benadryl cream.
he now officially hates catapilliers. as we were leaving he got to pick a sticker. why would this office choose to have catapillar stickers? that is dumb.

going to the pedi allergist tomorrow, which i am happy about. his face got all red and hivey last night after eating an apple and today after eating watermellon.
his eczema has gotten the worst it has ever been and he is scratching like mad. i trimmed his nails pretty good and keep applying hydrocort and aveno. he has been off the antihistamines for a few days and benadryl, too, in order for him to be tested tomorrow. it is definitely making a difference in how itchy he is. especially his scalp. i have liquid hydrocort that works well.
joe and i don't have allergies so it is so baffling where this is coming from. his grandpa had the fruit thing as a child but recently grew out of it.
i really need to start working with him for school work. he is craving knowledge. he is alwys asking me how to spell something or how much something is added up. today he said that he found how to make a different 7. so i said how? he said 4 and 3. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING. seriously?? he amazes me. a lot.
he is forever telling me how much he loves me. a bazzillion times a day. he is a sweet kid. god blessed us abundantly!!

OAS
thanks to my friend Kate, I think I found an answer to noah's issue the other day.
he has had a tough time with season allergies this year and now this. there is a correlation between seasonal allergies and allergies to fresh fruits and vegetables that share the same or similar biologic structure of protein. this is called Oral allergy syndrome. so if this is the case for him, he can't eat certain fresh fruits or veggies which stinks, but he can eat denatured fruits.. like cooked apples or apple sauce or canned veggies (ewww). so we'll see what the allergist says on june 7th.

bad week
earlier this week, paris snapped at noah in the face, i saw the whole thing. noah did nothing wrong. paris was not feeling well that day, vomiting and walking funny, b/c he rehurt his back by jumping on and off the couch again. so yes, he was not feeling well. paris has been getting more crotchety and snippy especially with other small dogs. so while he tolerated noah's abuse when he was younger, i am afraid he won't of ryan. so my mom offered to take him. we will pay all expenses and of course noah can visit. noah cried at first-- got really panicked that we were giving away his dog, but he is happy he is going to nana b's house at least.
and then yesterday, we were eating lunch--turkey sandwhich left over from subway, watermellon and then at the end i washed and gave him some store bought raw sugar snap peas. so that is why i say it was the peas, it was at the end of lunch. now he has had those s s peas many times. we planted it in our garden last year and noah ate them raw, right off the vine every day. it is a legume family and he always eats peanuts, peanut butter and beans and peas. i know allergies can develop at any time. while we were eating lunch he started making a face about the peas and said he did not like them anymore, they are rough on his throat. then he said he needed a break and went to lay on the couch. odd...
he came back and said his throat hurt, and he had hives all around his mouth. so i gave him 12.5 of benadryl and called joe.. i listened to his breathing, which was fine, as he has reactive airway and getting on albuterol more often now when he gets sick. and he is on singulair for his allergies now. and his eczema is getting worse, too. (yes, i know the triad of allergies, asthma and eczema. never diagnosed with asthma though). so i looked in his throat and he had tons of bumps all on the inside along the side on the back of his throat and his tonsils were huge. so i am thinking crap.. either swollen airway or you have strep and are not symptomatic..(no fever, malaise or other complaints).
so i called the dr and gave him another 12.5 and the dr called back and said to bring him to the er b/c there is throat involvement and she was worried about delayed anaphylaxis. let me preface that he was in no distress and playing and asking to watch tv. so i gathered him and the baby and went to the er. i was very happy with the dr and how he treated me and noah. joe met us there. no meds were given, as in no distress, although i think he could have started the prelone there. but we got a rx for two epi pens and prelone.

so i am baffled. i looked in his throat wth the er dr, and the bumps were gone, but i wonder if i did not look well enough b/c last night after he ate an apple, he started complainig that his mouth was itchy and was rubbing his eyes and face like crazy. so he got another dose of benadryl, already had the prelone on board and i made him sleep with us. and those bumps are here and the swollen tonsils. i just looked again, too. so is he sick? i dont know. but in the er, on his own, he said his throat was itchy and pointed right to the base of his throat between the two collar bones. he said it was the peas, on his own. so i do believe it was a true allergic reaction, but i am confused why those bumps are there...
back from pedi. the swelling and bump are called cobblestones from chronic postnasal drip from his seasonal allergies. but based on the er presentation and my reports and picture, we are seeing an allergist on june 7th. probably skin and blood tests....

noah is going to be an engineer some day. He is always building really cool lego cars, boats, helicopters, and even an ambulance. this is a "jack boat and costs $13," he said. (I have no idea what that is.)

He has such a knack for problem solving too. he has a wonderful and very creative imagination and a thirst for knowledge. he is always asking me what blank plus blank is and how to spell such and such. i really need to work with him this summer.
and of course, he is being a fabulous big brother. he is so sweet and loving, I am really happy!
may is a good month because it is mothers day and my bday. noah and daddy made it very special for me on both occasions. noah made a beautiful gardening hat for me with nana's help and picked out a "beautiful" necklace as he said. nana said he looked for a long time until finding the perfect one. and he made a beautiful card with daddy too complete with finger prints from all 3 boys. noah wished me a happy mothers day several times, very lovingly. mothers day is special to me b/c he was convieved on md.
for my bday, noah was wishing me a happy bday all day, very sweet and endearing. serioulsy, he is going to make some girl fall head over heals in love with him. he and daddy made me something at the pottery place and will pick it up this weekend. and my bday is very special as well because 5 years ago today I found out I was pregnant with noah. such a blessing!

mystic

auntie and nana took noah and leo to mystic for the day yesterday. the boys had such a great time!
noah is still being such a great big brother. he is now taking care of his own baby doll. he sleeps with him and asks me to nurse the doll! he tells me the rules to take care of him, "step 1. hold him, step 2. feed him, step 3. use the little green thing (play tweezers) to get the eye yucks out. step 4. put him to bed and give the pacifier. step 5. leave him alone."
he also gives nana a set of rules to care for ryan, when noah and i are leaving for church. he is so sweet and caring. he now prays for "baby out mommy's belly."
noah got weighed at the dr... he is 35 lbs and about 39 inches.

life with baby
noah is adjusting well to ryan which is awesome. he is doing much better than i thought he would. he loves to help him and give the paci. sometimes a little too rough, (grabs his head and jams the paci in like a stubborn screw). but no jealousy so far and likes to play with him, or try to play and offer toys.
he has horrible allergies now and started wheezing so he is back on his meds. and his eczema flaired up again and had hives a few weeks back from the allergies. he is on singulair, eye drops, saline nose spray, robitussin for the cough, and benadryl at night, claratin during the day. his eyes get very swollen when he wakes up and are all red and abraised from rubbing and scratching.
poor kid!
we had a great mothers day. sandi worked with him a lot to help me him make me a very cute gargening hat. and noah picked out a very pretty necklace at the store for me. sandi said he looked and looked until he found the right one. he and joe also made me a great card with a finger print from daddy, noah and ryan. i thought that was very sweet!
i remembered that noah was conceived on mother's day. that is the best gift of all!!!!!

Noah is a big brother!
ryan joseph was born on 4/6/10. noah came to the hospital that morning and did really well looking at baby and checking him out.
he has limits and lets us know how much is too much and when he wants more.
at home he always washes his hands first before touching baby. he has held him a few times and tried to help feed him once. no interest in changing his diaper but does help with the pacifiers. he likes to read to him and show him the pages of the book, which is very sweet.
joe was home for 3 weeks and spent a lot of time with noah outside, doing "guy stuff" going to parks, on a hike, to home depot.. they went to a ball game and noah bought baby a stuffed animal on his own!
so far noah is adjusting well. thank you jesus!
some cute things he has said:
- he asked if my belly was closed and locked now.. I guess no more babies for us!
-I told noah i had to pump and he asked why. I told him that my boobies hurt and he said, "well go to the dr and get a shot and turn into a man."
-when he first saw me pumping, he asked with a wrinkled nose, "what are you doing?!" so I explained that god made boobies to make milk for babies. sometimes mommies make too much milk and so this robot helps mommy get all the extra milk out." so then he started to bob up and down telling me he was a pump. the next day we saw dr mihalek and noah started to demonstrate how he looks like a breast pump, by going up and down. then ...NOAH STARTED MOOING. i almost died in that office.
-noah asked me when I start to exercise again, will I lose my boobies and be able to play with him, race and wrestle?
-and the best...
"when you are done making milk, your boobies will be flat and you will turn into a man? and have no hair like daddy? mommy the man, mommy the man, mommy the man..."
yah.. noah thinks boobs are nothing but trouble.

march 2010
Noah's behavior was getting really bad for a while and needed a few spankings from daddy to remind him how to behave. Very sassy and fresh, rude and disrespectful.
I have been really probing his heart to figure out what is going on and handling things differently, which is seeming to work. he is back to being sweet and lovey and telling me he "loves me all the time and wants to keep me forever!"
noah has pneumonia. found out yesterday. Joe went away for 4 days for school so I stayed at sil's house with noah on sat-sun. I wish I did not because I know noah will have gotten his cousins sick. I knew this cough was different which started on Friday. the albuterol was not working and he started out with a cough and fever. and when he gets a cold, he always starts out with a runny/sneezy nose and then maybe a cough. never a fever. in fact, in the past few years, the only time he had a fever was when he had the flu this winter. he was up all night ( me too) fri and sat night. coughing so hard that he kept vomiting. i finally took him out to the cold night air to help him. which also was odd b/c usually the cold air triggers his bronchospams and this time it helped. no croup. when at the park yesterday he was playing and laughing on the swings (before he fell) and coughed so hard and prolonged i knew it was time to go to the pedi. i knew it was pneumonia, and the dr agreed. he is on augmentin now. i am happy we caught it early. besides the cough and fever, he has no difficulty breathing which is great and a slight runny nose. glad joe is back home!
Yesterday he fell off the big boy swings. we took him to the park and joe went to put him in the baby swing and i said no, he needs to go on the big boy swings and learn to pump. so he was doing good and then joe was pushing him and all of a sudden he fell off backwards flat on his back and hit his head. he was not happy to say the least and will not go back on those he said. we try not to baby him-- obvioulsy hug and kiss him and hold him, but encourage him to get back up, brush yourself off and do it again. he has some fears.. like at jumpy houses, he will not go in without joe. he went to a bday party last week and was so clingy joe said, even some parents from church told me how he would not give joe a break.
not sure why he is so cautious. i rather have that than a dare-devil for sure. i told joe once he gets to preschool he will toughen up.

feb 2010
We have not had much of a snowy winter yet.. a few storms but nothing too big.
today we are waitng for the "big one"... but it has yet to appear.
We went to a super bowl party at noah's playgroup friend Emma's house. we enjoyed going last year as well. Lots of playing and eating.
I had my maternity pictures taken last weekend and noah did a pretty good job participating. he is getting ready for baby brother.. Toodles, as he has named him.
He is still going to mops on mondays, nana's on tuesdays, mbs on alternate wed, cbs on thursdays and we are home on fridays.
He really is into legos, tinker toys, lincoln logs, dinosaurs, pirates, spiderman, cars, trucks, trains, and building. not so much into coloring or crafts, but can enjoy them for a short time. he likes puzzles and games too.

January 2010
wow.. where did January go? I was thinking about noah and all of the things he can do now...some things he has been doing for a long time.
He gets up by himself and goes pees during the night and in the morning. attempts to wipe himself when poos but either uses a whole box of wet wipes or a whole roll of toilet paper. or nothing and neglects to tell me he went poop.
mostly gets himself dressed and undressed.
puts on his shoes and jacket and hat and takes them off. (can't zip yet or button)
can get himself a drink of water and snack and even at times helps himself to something in fridge with aid of step stool.
picks up toys well.. with being told a 1000 times to do so.
can color in the lines.
write his name
knows his first and last name,
knows his street address and city and town he lives in.
knows to dial 911 for emergencies and does well when we practice face senarios.
can help take out paris, feed him and does a good job playing with him and brushing.
can climb in and out of the car seat and likes to help buckle the straps.
knows how to count to 50.
can identify all numbers up to 10 and all letters.
knows all abc's.
knows all colors in english and spanish
knows all shapes
can identify his name when written
can draw a circle and a line
can draw a stick figure with details such as ears, hair, fingers and toes.
and,... no more naps! Just kind of happened on it's own.
the list goes on and on.. but fun to think of these things!

We had family over on Jan 9th to celebrate Noah's birthday. becky, emma, leo, nana B, scott, lori, chris and cheye, nana and grandpa, and my sister bonnie and her husband Brian all came over. we had a very nice time! Lots of pizza and cake. they helped noah open all of his bday games so he could play. what a mess! but it was a lot of fun, very relaxing and great to have family together. it was the first time my mom and bonnie had seen each other in 30 years! lots of tears!!

4th Birthday
We went to Boston for Noah's 4th birthday. It fell on a saturday and Friday was new years day. Since joe and I both had the holiday off, we went to boston for the weekend.
I worked thur night into fri and came home to sleep a bit. We left around noon and arrived at our hotel at 3pm. It was a really nice big fancy one that we all enjoyed.
We walked to dinner.. in the freezing cold.. not knowing that we could have acutally taken the car out of the hotel parking garage without receiving another bill.
and then we went to Boston children's museum. It is only a $1 per person on friday nights. we all had a really good time!
when we got home, the hotel staff brought up noah a icecream sundae with a candle and a bday card! It was very thoughtful of them.
the next morning we went swimming and then checked out. we drove to the boston aquarium which was not too far away. Noah had fun, especially watching the penguins and sharks.
then we went to Legal seafoods next door, where noah slept on our jackets in the booth. I guess he was tired!
He was getting kind of cranky.. too cranky for his own good. we had invited joe's parents over that night to have cake with us, but by the time we got to big Y to get the cake, noah had a complete fit and melt down. so we left..
it got even worse. so joe punished him, I cancelled the cake and party. joe's parents did not come over or bring paris back, which REALLY upset noah.
Noah saw that I was crying and really freaked out. I think it dawned on him just how upset and dissapointed I was.
After that he settled down and began to act right. I allowed him to open some presents. His nana and grandpa came over the next day for cake and brought paris back.. they were watching him for us while we were away.
It was a good bday, but a sad one too. The fact that he received his first spanking-- on his 4th bday-- says a lot. Let's pray his behavior changes.
